Descripción: About the AuthorJudith Koppens has been an author and illustrator for many years. Children are her most important source of inspiration. Their enthusiasm and honesty are always part of her work. Judith lives in the Netherlands and works as a teacher at an elementary school. An endearing, simple story about emotions, starting school and missing your mommy or daddy. For toddlers ages 30 months and up, with a focus on the child's emotions.Mila has a tummy ache. She's at school but she doesn't really want to participate or play with the other kids in class. She doesn't feel like playing with puzzles or blocks. She doesn't even feel like eating snacks. Her teacher knows just what it is: "I think you miss your mommy, Mila." Luckily, Mila's friends, Sen and Liza, are there to cheer her up. With their help, Mila finds that she doesn't miss her mommy as much anymore. From School Library JournalPreS-K—Mila, who sometimes lives with her father and other times with her mother, is sad when her mother has to quickly drop her off at school. Mila rejects her classmates' efforts to include her in their play. As they prepare to eat a snack, Mila's teacher lovingly pulls her onto her lap and asks why she isn't hungry. Mila explains that her stomach hurts, but it did not hurt when she was with her mother. Teacher and classmates say that they understand and admit that sometimes, they feel that way, too. The teacher suggests that the students play dress- up together; Mila, who has natural black hair and dark brown skin, has a small smile as her friend says she is putting on a dress just like Mila's mommy has, while another friend makes Mila giggle by pretending to be her cat. The colorful illustrations of the classroom and emotions in students' faces help children follow the action. VERDICT For early childhood collections, this is a great reminder that little upsets come and go, and that everyone needs extra comfort sometimes.—Katie Callahan, Montgomery County Public Sch., MDReview"The colorful illustrations of the classroom and emotions in students’ faces help children follow the action. VERDICT For early childhood collections, this is a great reminder that little upsets come and go, and that everyone needs extra comfort sometimes." –Katie Callahan, Montgomery County Public Sch., MD"This was good. A girl of divorced parents is dropped off at school by her mom, presumably to be picked up by her dad. She misses her mommy. After hearing that she misses her mom, her classmates help her feel better by playing with her." - Kankakee School District"This is a cute little book about how kids sometimes feel sad when they go to school and are away from their parents all day. It is also a good story about a co-parent family where she lives with both mom and dad separately." - Lubbock Public Library"Mila's parents are divorced, and she misses her mom at school, knowing her daddy is going to pick her up. Her classmates make her feel better. The illustrations are nice in this book as well as how the story was laid out on my kindle. I think this book is a great way to teach empathy to children." - Bookdreamer
