The first animal featured is the starling and the text describes how the birds use their strength in numbers to stay safe and to find food. The illustrations are a mix of digitally produced images and photographs that further add to the information presented. Each animal (black-capped squirrel monkeys, gray wolves, leaf-cutter ants, Pacific sardines, European rabbits) is covered in two spreads that provide cursory information on different aspects of the animal's behaviors, habitats, and collective habits that are of benefit to the species. Not detailed enough for research unless the topic is on animal groups. VERDICT Unless aimed at animal enthusiasts looking for a different angle on wildlife, this book is interesting for browsing but not enough detail to merit purchase.-John Scottα(c) Copyright 2011.
